Lethal Weapon

This is one of those movies that is ruined for me because I know there are three sequals, all starring Handsome Gibson, and Danny Glover, so any suspense about them getting offed is gone for me.

For me, I mostly wanted to check it out because the writer, Shane Black, was largely considered the top hot writer in the mid/late 80's and got huge amounts of cash for some of his scripts.

The movie itself was entertaining, nothing blow away for me, although it is 20 years old. Gibson was decent in it, although I totally didn't buy him as an on the edge, suicidal cop at all. I was actually laughing at that shit. I'm sure the ladies went crazy back in the day for him especially when he walks around bare assed in his beach house. Danny Glover was alright. The straight man to the psycho. Busey was in it, and was pretty weak.

The entire cast of bad guys and cronies was pretty weak for me. There was nobody that came off as a legitimate bad mother fucker, as you'd expect in a movie like this. Personally, I think Nathan White from Death Wish 4, as silly as he is, was way better. Not only that, the climax was better in the Bronson "classic".

Not to say these two movies can be compared, but it is definately funny to me that Lethal Weapon is largely considered a classic, where as the Death Wish movies can be found for $3.99 everywhere.

Overall, I think it was decent at best. I am sure at the time it was hip, cutting edge, and top tier action, but nowadays, its a weak 80's action movie. There are plenty better.

Not only that, the music SUCKS. This movie over did it with the saxaphone. Way over did it.

Richard Donner directed this, and one thing I thought was pretty cool was his advertising in the background for another movie he had a hand in making when on the marquee in the background, The Lost Boys was playing. That's so long ago.

Bottom line, I should've done the Mission Impossible idea and start with part 4 and go backwards to see how the originals compared to the sequels. Ah well.

2.5 buttholes. It was alright, not blow away.

One other thing, most of the helicopter and city shots from the air are so shitty. They are so shaky. Could've done better on those. Jerks.
